When in the course of my studies I was called to be taught Art History, I though it was irrelevant to my field. I soon realized that the evolution of every artist can only be achieved through one’s interaction with the other arts.
The rules (of composition, balance etc), the academic knowledge and systematic training are indispensable tools for the artist to present one’s personal vision in a quality manner. In contrast, the half-taught can only go up to where one’s limited capacities allow them.
The knowledge of Art History allows us to tell true art from amateur works (even if the later occasionally look like art works). To understand when a suggestive work shows intention and when inability. To tell artistic vision from poor knowledge.

"Homework":
- What is the difference between a sculpture and a construction?
- When a construction can qualify as a work of art?
